Saints are extraordinary men, women and children who devoted their lives to Jesus and his teachings in many different ways. The pope may declare an individual who has one miracle attributed to them, blessed, through a process known as beatification. A saint is a person officially honored by the Roman Catholic Church as someone who has achieved heavenly glory and one through which the Lord chooses to display extraordinary generosity.

Catholics believe that the saints remain in communion with people living in the world. Mary, mother of Jesus, is listed in the canon as the prominent saint of Catholicism.
